According to Polygon, "One source said Treyarch has since focused Black Ops 4's development on expanding multiplayer and the series' popular Zombies mode".

Despite everyone and their dog reaching out to Activision for comment on all these rumors, the publisher is staying tight lipped and refusing to offer any soundbites. The genre is now captivating a large portion of the gaming audience and it would only seem natural that Activision wants to hop on this trend before it's exhausted. Hard to say-we'll know officially in about a month-but it does sound like this CoD has a better chance of being more structurally distinct from other games in the series. The game is being developed by Treyarch Studios and will be published by Activision.
