An investigation was underway Sunday into a blaze in Trump Tower that left one man dead and sent six firefighters to the hospital.
- A 67-year-old man died and 4 FDNY firefighters were injured in a fire on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday evening. That's what they said. Warhol made several references to spending time with Brassner in his posthumously published diaries.
In 1999, Trump lobbied NY councillors against a proposed measure obligating high rise landlords to install sprinkler systems, following a blaze at a property not owned by the then real estate magnate which killed four people. On Facebook, Brassner boasted about a portrait, seen above, that Warhol painted of him in 1975. And no, Donald Trump was nowhere in sight.
And like his father, Trump's son Eric Trump hailed the first responders as "truly some of the most incredible people anywhere" for extinguishing a fire "in a residential apartment".
Fire sprinklers were not required in New York City high-rises when Trump Tower was completed in 1983.
Brassner's apartment was valued at $2.5 million, according to bankruptcy documents from 2015.
Cubs' home opener against Pirates snowed out
The Brewers will be without their own star in Christian Yelich, who probably won't return from his oblique injury until Monday. The good news is that he has already registered 11 strikeouts and he'll face a Cubs lineup that is full of strikeout potential.
"We had many floors to search, and stairways".
No one from the Trump family was present in the building at the time of the fire, New York City Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
Trump was mollified when the law was altered to specify that existing buildings didn't need to install sprinklers unless they underwent gut renovations. "Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition", the official account for the Fire Department of NY tweeted at the time.
As well as his luxury residence, Trump Tower also contains offices of the Trump family business. Streets surrounding the building owned by US President Donald Trump that serves as the headquarters for The Trump Organization and houses the president's penthouse were closed off as tourists snapped pictures on their phones.
