She bought a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol January 2 at The Gun Range, a gun store and firing range about 22 miles from the San Diego home she shared with her grandmother.

The 39-year-old Persian-American Nasim Najafi Aghdam stormed into the headquarters of YouTube in Silicon Valley and shot three people with her 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun.

YouTube employee Dianna Arnspiger said she was on the building's second floor when she heard gunshots, ran to a window and saw the shooter on a patio outside. "I wish we could look into someone's soul".

"She was insane and just wanted to make herself famous", she said. Officers spent almost two hours Wednesday at the Jackson Arms Shooting Range in South San Francisco, a few miles from the YouTube headquarters.

Aghdam's family last saw her on March 31, and they reported her missing April 2.

The father finally emerged from his two-story home Wednesday afternoon and faced the crowd of reporters and TV trucks that had camped out all day.

"We know she was upset with YouTube, and now we've determined that was the motive", the Police Chief Barberini said after findings that none of the victims knew the attacker personally.

But her brother said he expressed additional concern upon learning she was discovered by police so close to the YouTube campus.

The officer arrived late Wednesday morning at the Jackson Arms Shooting Range in the city of South San Francisco after authorities said Nasim Aghdam visited a gun range before the rampage at YouTube.

How the shooting at YouTube's Calif. headquarters unfolded

Eleven hours after the interaction, Aghdam opened fire at the company's headquarters. Next to another video, which also had been blocked Wednesday, she wrote: "This video got age restricted after new close-minded employees, got control of my farsi youtube channel past year 2016 and began filtering my videos to reduce views & suppress & discaurage (sic) me from making videos!"

"My new videos hardly get views.so this is because I'm being filtered", Aghdam said in one video.

Still, she seemed to be a conflicted woman living in two worlds, the Iran of her childhood where she would attract numerous social media followers, and the United States where she became disillusioned over what she perceived as the hypocrisy of American ideals.

Nasim Aghdam referenced a since-deactivated website, PeaceThunder, in a 2014 interview promoting veganism. She opened fire later that day and then killed herself.

Police said there was nothing during their 20-minute interaction with Nasim Aghdam that suggested plans for violence, and characterized their conversations with her father and brother as "calm" and mentioning no nefarious plans.

Of three people wounded by gunshots, a 36-year-old man initially classified as critically injured remained hospitalized Friday in fair condition.

Several San Bruno police officers on Wednesday spent almost two hours at Jackson Arms, a South San Francisco range. Two were released from hospital care but one is still in serious condition.

It's still unclear why she turned the gun on herself and whether she could have continued firing.

The gun was registered in her name, Caldwell said. "She stated she had come to the area to stay with family and while she was now living out of her vehicle, she was in the process of looking for a job", the Mountain View Police Department said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
