North Koreans got their first big dose of news Monday that their leader Kim Jong Un had arrived in Singapore for what even the state-run media was calling a historic meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Great to be in Singapore, excitement in the air!" the president tweeted on Sunday after landing in Singapore, where U.S.
The United States and North Korea have been in a technical state of war for decades after the eruption of the 1950-1953 Korean War, which pitted U.S. -led U.N. troops backing Seoul against Pyongyang's forces that were aided by China.
Kim had "expressed his deep thanks to the Singaporean government for its honest cooperation of providing all conditions and best conveniences for the historic DRPK-US summit meeting", KCNA reported.
The two were North Korean media workers waiting to capture images of their leader, who all North Koreans are duty bound to revere, arriving for a historic summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.
When Trump and Kim meet at 9am local time on Tuesday at Sentosa, a resort island off Singapore's port, they will be making history.
Speaking as he met with Singapore's prime minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday for lunch, Trump said: "We have a very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow and I think things can work out very nicely".
Sanders says Trump spent his flight from Canada to Singapore "meeting with his staff, reading materials and preparing for his meetings in Singapore".

Sung Kim, a veteran diplomat who recently held talks with North Korean officials, led the USA delegation in working level talks on Monday.
Trump initially touted the potential for a grand bargain with North Korea to rid itself of a nuclear missile program that has advanced rapidly to threaten the United States.
At the hotel lobby, grim-faced North Korean security guards warned other hotel guests not to take pictures as Kim walked to his Mercedes Benz limousine. But he also made clear Kim has a "one-time shot".
"Substantive and detailed meetings in #Singapore today", Pompeo wrote on Twitter, along with photos of Sung Kim and North Korean officials at the negotiating table.
Kim smiled broadly in the meeting Sunday evening. But it remains unclear if Kim will part with what he likely views as his most important bargaining chip any time soon.
