It is estimated that over 20 million plastic bottles are littered in Scotland each year and that approximately 120,000 tonnes of plastic packaging waste is produced from households in Scotland each year, according to Zero Waste Scotland. They promise to make this the largest and most substantial World Environment Day ever.

"These mainly find their ways into the water bodies disintegrating to micro-plastic which are consumed by aquatic animals and ultimately kills them or are transferred into the food chain".

He said the Federal government is now working on a National Policy on Plastic Waste Management, to regulate the use and disposal of plastics in the country.

Plastic pollution is affecting even remote areas of the planet, including the Artic.
