Manchester City are furious with Napoli and new Chelsea signing Jorginho for reneging on a deal to join the Premier League champions.
Maurizio Sarri has revealed his delight at being appointed as Chelsea FC's new manager.
"It is an exciting new period in my career", said Sarri.
Sarri's appointment was confirmed on Saturday morning, and he said that he is looking forward "to starting work and meeting the players".
"I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves", he said.
Antonio Conte repeatedly hinted at tension with the Chelsea hierarchy
The cinema mogul disclosed that he had cut a deal with Manchester City for the midfielder over two weeks ago but Chelsea had offered a higher salary and the Italy worldwide preferred to move to London rather than Manchester. Press Association Sport understands City are unhappy at how events have transpired, having felt they had a deal in place.
Pep Guardiola had identified the Italy worldwide as his primary midfield target following his eye catching displays against City in last season's Champions League and even singled the 26-year-old out for glowing praise.
The former Juventus and Italy boss often hinted at grievances with the London club's hierarchy, particularly over transfer policy, and was discarded with a year remaining on his contract and despite overseeing the start of pre-season training for the 2018-19 campaign.
And Sarri has revealed his happiness at signing for Chelsea FC after months of speculation linking him with the Stamford Bridge job.
However with Sarri still under contract with Napoli, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reluctant to spend in light of his visa issues, all parties had been left in limbo until Conte was finally relieved of his duties on Friday.
Sarri's first game at the helm is scheduled to be the July 23 friendly against Perth Glory in Western Australia.
