Just days before President Donald Trump will hold a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Attorney General Rod Rosenstein dropped a bombshell indictment in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation charging 12 Russian intelligence agents with hacking-related crimes.
The two leaders are scheduled to meet Monday in Helsinki.
But the Kremlin, which has long pushed for such a meeting, hopes it will be the beginning of a thaw that will allow ties to be gradually rebuilt and for the two to cooperate pragmatically in areas where they have common interests. President Trump asserted that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members would be increasing spending because of him - again, false.
Trump is scheduled to meet with Putin in Finland on Monday, a summit that comes on the heels of the US president's "destructive" performance at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation gathering in Brussels and his official visit to the United Kingdom, which was met with nationwide protests on a historic scale.
"We need to stay on the course that President Trump's policies are - rebuild American military strength, strengthen North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, get NATO to get spend money on their own defense, and stop having Europe make these multi-billion dollar oil and gas deals with Russian Federation".
He said North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is "more co-ordinated" and there's a "better spirit for NATO" even amid reports that he threated to pull the United States out of the alliance in a dispute over defence spending. "(But) it seems to us that there are no objective reasons for the tension that has built up".
"These revelations add to a body of evidence confirming an extensive plot by Vladimir Putin's government to attack the 2016 election, sow chaos and dissension among the American electorate, and undermine faith in our democracy,"McCain said in a statement on Friday".
US Ambassador Plays Down Trump's United Kingdom in 'Turmoil' Comment
Anti-Trump protesters are expected to take to the streets of London during his visit to Britain. Maybe we'll speak to him when I get over there.
Warsaw is in talks with Washington on boosting the presence of American troops in Poland and these talks are at a "very advanced" stage, the Polish president has said.
"One of the main subjects of discussion will be the situation in Syria, notably in the context of the Iranian military presence in that country".
Russian Federation has denied any involvement in the attack.
Trump also slammed the Nord Stream II pipeline that is set to bring gas from Russian Federation to Germany, calling it a "horrible mistake" that would give Moscow power over Berlin. "Now", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted Friday.
At a later press conference, Trump did not deny that he had made the threat, and said he had the authority to take the US out of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation without Congress approval but that it was "unnecessary".
The group are also accused of stealing information on 500,000 U.S. voters after hacking a state USA election board.
