Twelve audio recordings seized from US President Donald Trump's onetime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, were turned over to federal prosecutors on Friday, according to a filing in federal court in Manhattan on Monday.
Thanks to Michael Cohen's surreptitious taping of his client, we now have heard a conversation in September 2016 between Cohen and then-GOP nominee Donald Trump concerning payment to hush up a story about a Playboy model with whom the president allegedly had a 10-month affair. On the audio tape, first released by CNN, Trump can be heard discussing the payment with Cohen. Cohen tells Trump, "We'll have to pay".
Either way, the move has incited a harsh war of words between Davis and Giuliani, and is the final sign that Cohen has flipped on the man he used to say he would take a bullet for. The payment was made in August 2016.
The tape involves Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had a months-long fling with Trump after they met in 2006.
Rubio: Trump should be 'clear-eyed' about who Putin is
Asked whether he agreed with that statement , Barletta's campaign said " Russia is clearly an adversary of the United States". Trump initially appeared receptive to Putin's offer, calling it an "incredible offer" at last Monday's press conference .
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, McDougal and American Media agreed to a deal in which the tabloid would publish her fitness columns in exchange for keeping the Trump story quiet. Rudy Giuliani told Fox News' Hannity that this payment was reimbursed and that President Trump knew about it. Giuliani also claimed that the payment was related to the campaign. I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped - can this be so?
As part of the criminal investigation being conducted by federal investigators in the Southern District of New York, Cohen is being probed for potential bank fraud and potentially violating election law by trying to suppress damning information about then-candidate. A representative for the company did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the case, the Cohen recording or whether it held any discussion about the transfer of the rights to Trump. "And it is, just the beginning of, I guess, Lanny Davis's attempt to pay back Hillary Clinton or try to pay back Donald Trump for beating Hillary Clinton". However, the new audio recording makes that claim suspicious.
The tape was one of 12 seized from Cohen's files by NY prosecutors back in April, and the airing of the McDougal conversation is sure to escalate the war between the Trump and Cohen camps. Giuliani and Trump have both asserted that Cohen was reimbursed through his $35k monthly retainer. "And it was Michael Cohen who said 'no, no, no, no'".
