"Most of the haziness we're seeing is just this residual smoke".
The Air Quality Index Tuesday was 190 (parts of the city climbed to 220) and Wednesday was still 185.
Environment Canada said the index for Calgary was calculated as a 10 - very high risk - at 4 a.m., but it had dropped to 7 - high risk - by 8 a.m.
As of today, August 21, Vancouver had been under an air quality advisory for more than a week with more advisories expected. This means many coastal communities, including Victoria, saw a significant air quality improvement Thursday morning.
There are now 563 wildfires burning in British Columbia, which last week declared a province-wide state of emergency and brought in 300 soldiers to help almost 3,400 firefighters, including from Australia, Mexico and New Zealand, battle the flames. "Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk".
