Starting tonight and through the weekend, Shenandoah National Park will be hosting the "Night Sky Festival", with space-related activities, and a front row seat to a meteor shower.
Locally, Natural Bridge is offering an opportunity to watch the meteor shower between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
If you do have a break in the clouds, be sure to look toward the north. Stargazers will be able to see the falling debris as "shooting stars".
The meteors will appear to originate from the constellation Perseus which will be in the northeast sky. The comet Swift-Tuttle orbits the sun once every 133 years, so every August, the Earth passes through the comet's debris field.
