From 1987 to 1995, Kyl served as a member of the House of Representatives from Arizona.
Governor Ducey said he would like to keep Kyl in the Senate until McCain's seat is up for relection in 2020.
Kyl, 76, said he was willing to serve through at least the end of the current Congress, injecting a degree of uncertainty about the future of the seat. He was buried on Sunday following tributes in both Arizona and Washington.
The governor informed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., about his decision early last week, according to two other people familiar with the situation.
That could help another Arizona Republican who is now trying to join the U.S. Senate - Rep. Martha McSally. If McSally loses, she'd be out of a job just in time for Kyl's appointment to end on January 3. Ducey, a Republican, said, adding Kyl was "the best possible person, regardless of politics".
Notably, Kyl is close to McSally.
Since leaving the Senate, Kyl has worked as a lobbyist at Covington & Burling in Washington DC.
Kyl, who retired in 2012, will now serve alongside the man who succeeded him: Republican Jeff Flake. Flake is retiring because his feud with Trump made his re-election impossible. Ducey said he spoke to Cindy McCain Tuesday morning. I think it is boorish.
Meghan McCain, John McCain's daughter, also supported the pick.
Nothing Without Him - Several Chelsea Fans React To Eden Hazard's Display
Blues fan and Twitter user Felix Selorm Hosu belives the club are nothing without Hazard as Shontelle Chelsea labelled him "King". He also went ahead to create a chance during the Match against Newcastle, a goal scored by Yedlin.
Once he is sworn in Wednesday, Kyl will cast crucial votes in the coming weeks on Kavanaugh's nomination, government spending and possibly billions for a U.S. -Mexico border wall and perhaps another round of tax cuts. He served in the Senate for more than 30 years and was the 2008 Republican presidential nominee against former President Barack Obama.
In making the announcement, Ducey said, "There is no one in Arizona more prepared to represent our state in the U.S. Senate than Jon Kyl".
"The best piece of advice I received was from another governor who said, 'just do the right thing".
"Senator Kyl is prepared to hit the ground running".
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, R, will appoint former Sen.
Separately, GOP senators chose to make Sen.
The US Senate seat left vacant by John McCain's death will be filled by Jon Kyl, a former Republican senator from Arizona, it was announced on Tuesday. But he would not commit to staying in office beyond that time, explaining that when he left before, it was because he wanted to spend more time with his family. In that cycle, voters will get to decide who fills the remainder of McCain's seat through 2022. "He understands how the Senate functions, and will make an immediate and positive impact benefiting all Arizonans", Ducey said.
One of his first tasks will be to vote in President Donald Trump's nominee for United States Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.
Kyl said he did not "really have a relationship" with President Trump, having met him only once. "But I think there's a happy medium", Kyl said.
