Six years ago, Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion. But because of Facebook's dependence on automation, the more ads you get, the spottier quality becomes - and the greater the likelihood of repulsing users. But that could quickly change.

The company has started mentioning Instagram more frequently on its earnings calls and taking credit for its success.
In the meantime, investors may be showing signs of concerns with the stock trading lower by more than 2 percent to $161.85 early Tuesday morning. And especially when its parent has long stopped being cool, what with everyone and their grandma now on it. Zuckerberg ally Chris Cox, who leads product development for Facebook's main app, gained oversight of WhatsApp and Instagram, which had been given independence when Facebook bought them.
But there was pressure for their two apps to become more integrated, and features were added allowing, for example, Instagram Stories - videos that self-destruct after 24 hours - to be cross-posted to Facebook.
"I don't think Zuckerberg is dumb", Akhtar said.
