He's 54, still relatively young, and though the arachnoid cyst on his brain seemed to be exhibiting painful symptoms this season, the condition isn't something life threatening-and, more crucially, those symptoms will likely subside with some minimal medical intervention. Meyer will stay on through the Rose Bowl. But he didn't blame only his health for stepping away.
"I believe I will not coach again", said Meyer, who will have a yet-to-be-determined role at the school.
"When somebody tells me something to my face, I expect it to be the truth", Youngblood told me then. "At each juncture, I gave Zach Smith the benefit of the doubt".
Meyer said leaving would have been more hard if the program wasn't healthy.
Meyer led the Gators to national championships in 2006 and 2008 and went 13-1 three times at UF (also in 2009).
Ohio State's athletic department says it will hold a news conference to announce the coaching transition from Meyer to Day at 2 p.m. ET.
Meyer, who denied friction with athletics director Gene Smith, plans to retire from coaching, according to a release from Ohio State distributed Tuesday morning. Day will take over for Meyer in exactly four weeks.

"I plan on coaching", he said on October 29. He joined Ohio State's staff in 2017 after stops at Temple (twice), Boston College (twice), the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. He led the Buckeyes to the first College Football Playoff title in January 2015 and the last two Big Ten championships.
Meyer previously stepped down as head coach at Florida for health reasons. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed. Meyer has about $38 million left on his contract.
The offensive coordinator took over this season for three games when Meyer sat out with a suspension.
