Some Indigenous leaders have been highly critical of Trudeau's decision to demote Wilson-Raybould and those criticisms escalated Tuesday.
Wilson's daughter, Jody Wilson-Raybould, was moved from her position as justice minister to lead veterans affairs in a surprise cabinet shuffle on January 14. "And that's why I continue to be puzzled and disappointed by her decision to step down from cabinet".
The Liberal government maintains that while discussions on the matter took place with Wilson-Raybould, she wasn't pressured or told to issue a directive to the prosecutor. "This work must and will carry on".
Jody Wilson-Raybould, who resigned from the Liberal cabinet Tuesday, has cited the privilege as the reason she can not speak publicly about discussions with the prime minister's inner circle on the fate of criminal charges against construction and engineering firm SNC-Lavalin.
Wilson-Raybould served seven years as the commissioner of the B.C. Treaty Commission and, as Canada's attorney general for more than three years, helped reform Canada's legal approach to litigation involving First Nations and reframe the Trudeau government's approach to First Nations.
"I respect her view that, due to privilege, she can't comment or add on matters recently before the media".
On Monday, the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, Mario Dion, agreed to a request from New Democrats to begin an investigation into the attempts by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his office to provide SNC-Lavalin with a reduced punishment stemming from serious corruption charges.
"How the law treats individuals or corporations in our society is not, and should never be, incumbent upon the political pressure they can exert upon politicians", he said.

The father of former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould had sharp words for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following her resignation from federal cabinet.
"They perpetuate colonial-era, sexist stereotypes that Indigenous women can not be powerful, forthright, and steadfast in positions of power, but rather confrontational, meddling and egotistic".
In the wake of that Cabinet shuffle, she released a statement saying that the justice system must "be free from even the perception of political interference and uphold the highest levels of public confidence". The list also includes Lametti, the prime minister's chief of staff, Katie Telford, and his principal secretary, Gerald Butts.

Perry Bellegarde, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, said in a statement that he was "saddened" by Wilson-Raybould's departure, noting that many First Nations people celebrated her appointment to the justice portfolio as a "testament to her expertise, experience and intellect".
Wilson-Raybould will stay on as MP for Vancouver-Granville.
